Adi Steurbaut is self taught and graduated as a civil engineer architect at the University of Ghent. He is a retro-constructivist who is completely under the spell of De Stijl with namely Theo Van Doesburg and Piet Mondrian, the avant-garde, the dada movement, the suprematism of Malevich, and all art movements of the early 20th century.
His mathematical, scientific and architectural background left him the weapons (a compass and a ruler) to work as a constructivist. He wants to honor the artists from that fascinating and flowering period 100 years after De Stijl magazine was first published (1917 to 1931), and aims to create honorary work from 2017 to 2031.
Kazimir Malevich himself said about his abstract works: "Don't look for a meaning, the painting is especially itself. And Steurbaut adds: "Do search for a meaning, and enjoy your search!"
The artist previously exhibited in Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland and the USA
