Jean De Gryse lives and works in Kortrijk. Since 1985 he creates solely abstract work. De Gryse has developed a visual language that may be considered a rich variation of a constructive and personal geo-abstract thinking and painting.
Some of his paintings are gems in terms of pictorial precision and possess a strange tension. They provide a fresh allure and add an additional dimension to the fundamental image which has slowly grown into a full visual language. The visual language of De Gryse is contemporary in the sense that it fits well in the fundamental act of painting with a constructive under- or overtone . In some of his paintings, matter dominates and dictates the rhythm; in others the main attention seems to go to what we can best describe as writing of a never ending rhythm from which a piece was cut out.
